‘There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope.’
Bernard Williams
Our world is not an easy place to live. For everyone life is full of challenges to overcome and mountains to climb. When life feels overwhelming or we are lost in the forest of the problems we are facing it can impact our day to day existence and interfere with our relationships with those we care about. Holding on to, and building hope has the power to sustain and even transform us even when faced with the most difficult challenges.
It can help to talk with a caring professional who can assist you to more clearly see the future you desire, the past in a way that helps you move forward as the authentic version of yourself you want to be, and the present you want to live now.
As a counsellor I will honour your story. You can share as much, or as little, as you wish. As I listen I will ask questions that focus and build on your desired outcome from the time we spend together in the therapeutic process. While the issue, challenge or problem that brought you to counselling is significant, There is great value in exploring and building upon the personal strengths, characteristics, important people and resources that are useful to you in overcoming challenges. There is also value in noticing instances when life is a wee bit better whether the issue is present or not quite as challenging as well as noticing changes both big and small as they begin to occur and have an impact on you and those around you. These can both provide important information that can help you move closer to the outcome you desire.
By focusing our conversation on where you want to go and building a description of what you want your future to look like, the possible pathways to create that future can emerge and the transformation you desire can begin to take place as you move towards your desired outcome.
